Living half
an hour from the Swiss Alps I didn’t think I would be particularly enamoured
with Portugal. Too flat! No soaring white peaks!
But my wife was dead keen to go this
April. And she needed a driver of our hire car."And look, the Alps are still snowed in, but down there the flowers will be out and the trees in bloom!"
So off I went, trailing a pace behind her, for a 12-day car tour of mostly North Portugal, down the coast from Porto to Sintra, missing out Lisbon (next time!), and then cutting inland to some places I’d never heard of.
In reality, I was enchanted. Portugal in April - what a "Geheimtip"! And the roads were so quiet (worrying for the economy but great for peace-loving travellers).
I’ve written enough. I hope the video will whet your appetite better than words.
And - not least to mention - we found the Portuguese very friendly.
